Chapter Four is the fourth chapter of Clementine: Book Three and the twenty-third chapter of Skybound Comet's Clementine overall.

Plot

Clementine comes home and is chastised by Olivia for missing Ricca's burial. She tells Clem that she's lucky because Ricca is at least here with her, while Amos is lost on the mountain. Clementine goes to leave, Olivia stops her and asks Clem if she's losing her too.

Later, Clementine is being taught to memorize the map that Maria will test her on later by Iluuna. She is also introduced to Biina and Merku. Soon, Ujammi comes by to give the girls their payment, but it's less than their owed. Ujammi spots Clem and Fen and asks them why they're not in class, but the other girls quickly surround her and she backs off, handing them a piece of paper with a name before leaving. The name on the paper is of someone who Nuuk can't handle. Iluuna criticize Clem for having doubts, but Fen stands up for her.

As time goes on, Clementine starts spending more and more time with Maria and the other girls. Saa and Derrick spot her walking by, but decide to let her be. Clementine discusses with Fen about going back to check on the others, but Fen tells her they're not supposed to. Maria comes up and Clem tells her she wants to go check on her friends. Maria gives her permission, but Clementine quickly changes her mind and goes to work on the wall.

As Clementine is hammering on the wall, Ujammi comes by and ask her if there's anything she can say that will get her to come back to school. She also tells her she grew up with Maria and that Maria has convinced them that they're only good for violence. Clem snaps back at her, but is silenced when Ujammi tells her Olivia came to class yesterday.

Sometime later, Clementine meets with Maria on a tower. Maria tells her that thinking about Ricca is killing her. Clem responds that even though she's lived with death for so long, losing Ricca was different because she believed they were safe. Maria says she doesn't need to be safe and that everyone around her might drop dead, but she's strong enough to live with that. Just then, Biina comes up and tells them someone is here to see Clementine. Clementine goes outside to find Olivia holding her baby. Olivia tells her that she, Saa, and Derrick are all worried about her and Fen. She tells Clementine that everyone on the council is sick of Maria and this set up isn't going to last. She calls Clementine out for being suspicious of Morro, but not this. Clementine says she feels better here, but Olivia retorts that she lost Ricca too and she needs Clementine. Maria calls Clementine inside and she goes, while Maria tells Olivia not to come back.

Later that night, Biina gifts Clementine a new hat. They later join the other girls who have captured a man for stealing grain. They exile him and tell him not to come back. Maria joins them in watching him leave and remembers nights like this after she lost her family. She asks Clem if her mother is alive, Clementine tells her no, to which Biina responds that with them, she can have a mom again. Maria gives Clementine a kiss on the forehead and tells her if the man turns around, shoot him.
