It's the same people, same setup. Just had to relocate after you helped burn it down. If you recall that.
Maggie Rhee to Negan Smith about Hilltop's new location

The Bricks is a walled farming community in AMC's The Walking Dead: Dead City, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Originally a brick factory, the area was settled in 2025 by a community hailing from the destroyed Hilltop Colony in Culpeper, led by Maggie Rhee. In 2027, the Mile Jurkovic, known better as "The Croat", attacked the Bricks with the Burazi, an extortionist group from Manhattan, and kidnaped Maggie's son, Hershel. A former Savior wanting to recruit his old leader, Negan Smith, the Croat was aware that Negan murdered her husband and agreed to return Hershel in exchange for Negan. Maggie tracked Negan down, brought him to Manhattan, and successfully exchanged him for Hershel, but at the cost of the Croat and the Dama having Negan assist their movement in occupying all of Manhattan.

Initially a member of the Coalition, a federation of communities in Virginia, the Bricks were later occupied by the New Babylon Federation and cut off from their trading partners. Following the Burazi conflict, New Babylon was made aware of the Croat's ability to obtain methane from the bodies of the zombies. In an effort to invade Manhattan and acquire the methane, New Babylon forced the conscription of all abled-bodied people in the Bricks to the New Babylon Army.

Pre-Apocalypse

Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia

Nothing is known about this location's history before the outbreak except that it was a brick factory in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

Post-Apocalypse

Founding (2025-2027)

Fifteen years after the outbreak, the brick factory was settled by a group of people led by Maggie Rhee. Her people originally hailed from the Hilltop Colony in Culpeper, Virginia as farming community until was razed by the Whisperers in 2021, and further damaged by the Commonwealth in 2022. Maggie attempted to rebuild the community, but the colony was damaged beyond repair and was forced to relocate. Finding the brick factory in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Maggie successfully managed to relocate her people and named this new community "The Bricks".

The Burazi Conflict (2027)

One night, the Bricks is raided by a group led by a man called the Croat. Outnumbered and outmatched, the Bricks has all of its grain stolen with the Croat promising to return in a month to collect more. When the Croat returns, he kidnaps Hershel as leverage. During the attack, the Croat uses the Saviors' whistle, causing Maggie to realize that he is a former member of the group and to seek out Negan's help to rescue her son and stop the Croat who she has tracked to Manhattan. As part of her deal with Negan for his help, Maggie agrees to take Ginny in at the Bricks, although Negan's possible future at the community will be determined after their rescue mission. However, Ginny leaves after discovering that Maggie had lied about all of the Bricks' grain being stolen, the Croat having really taken Hershel with a demand that Negan be traded for him.

Following the successful rescue of Hershel, Maggie returned to the Bricks with her son, and Ginny, but discovered a further threat to Hershel's safety.

New Babylon Federation (2027-Present)

The Bricks was later forced to join the New Babylon Federation who cut off all of their trading partners, presumably including the Coalition.

Government and Society

Not much is known about how the Bricks works, but it is described as having the same setup as Hilltop with Maggie Rhee as the leader. Adults work in the gardens while children attend school. Residents live in apartments fitted in the old factory buildings and multiple gates leading into the community are under watch by guards.
