The following is a transcript of Episode 4: Take Us Back of The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series - The Final Season.
Narration
AJ: Last time on The Walking Dead. Since I can remember, Clem's always been there with me. She taught me to be careful. To be quiet. To be strong.
AJ: To never hesitate.
AJ: To save the last bullet for myself.
AJ: To always aim for the head.
AJ: To kill people that try and hurt us.
AJ: To atone when I do something bad.
AJ: I always listened to Clem. Always. But... I've been thinking more. I don't know if she's right every time.
AJ: She told me to shoot her if she got bit.
AJ: She told me to leave her if she got bit.
AJ: She told me way back, to shoot her if she got bit.
AJ: That doesn't feel right. We're doing a lot of bad things. To save our friends. To protect our home.
AJ: And when Clem told me to shoot Lilly...
AJ: And when Clem told me not to shoot Lilly... And she... she killed James.
AJ: And when Clem hesitated, and I didn't shoot Lilly... And she... she killed James.
AJ: I got mad. So mad. I don't... I don't know what I feel anymore. I don't know if Clem knows either. But I remember all the rules. And the first one... is never go alone.
Boat
Clementine wakes up on the boat, which is falling apart. Lilly will either be gone, or Clem will see her corpse. Clementine stands up, and an explosion knocks her hat off her head and into the water.
AJ: Clem!
AJ holds onto the edge of the boat.
Clementine: Hang on! I'm coming!
There are several more explosions as Clem jumps over to a lifeboat.
Clementine: AJ, you have to trust me. On the count of three, let go, and I'll catch you.
AJ: Promise?
Clementine: Promise. One, two, three!
AJ lets go; he falls, but Clem grabs his hand.
AJ: Hurry, Clem! I'm slipping! Please, Clem! Help!
Clementine pulls him into the boat.
AJ: Now what?
Clementine: We need to find a way down. This ship isn't gonna stay afloat much longer.
An explosion rocks the boat, fraying one of the ropes holding it to the Delta ship.
AJ: There! We can climb down from there.
Clementine: Well, we have to get there first. Okay, we've got to jump.
AJ: It's far.
Clementine: I know it's far, but it's the only way. You'll have to go first. You'll need a running start.
AJ: I don't know, Clem.
Clementine: Come on, you can do this, AJ. Just run, and jump. You got this.
Clementine: We don't have time to hesitate. We need to jump. Now.
Clementine: Whatever you do... just don't look down.
AJ: I got this. I got this!
Clementine: AJ, what do we do when we're scared?
AJ: Fuck off, fear!
AJ: We tell fear to--
Clementine: It's okay. Just this once.
AJ: We tell it to fuck off!
AJ: We push through it. We don't let it take over.
AJ takes deep breaths.
Clementine: Better?
AJ runs and jumps onto the part of the Delta ship that is more stable.
AJ: Come on, Clem.
Clementine tries to move across the boat as the explosions continue. The rope snaps, and Clem holds onto the seat.
AJ: Clem!
Clementine: Get to the pier. I'll meet you there.
AJ: I'm not going to leave you.
Clementine: There's nothing you can do. I'll find a way there. Now go!
Clem pulls herself up and jumps onto the railing moments before the lifeboat falls into the water. Clementine climbs across, avoiding some falling debris. An explosion knocks AJ onto the tarp and part of the railing breaks off.
AJ: Hurry!
Clementine climbs to the edge of the railing.
AJ: You got this, Clem! Jump!
AJ: You need to jump! Now!
AJ: Whatever you do, don't look down!
Clem jumps onto the tarp moments before the railing collapses and the ship is hit with more fiery explosions. AJ and Clem climb onto the pier.
Pier
An arrow hits the post near Clem and AJ. Gad is armed with Clementine's bow.
Gad: You forgot something!
Clementine ducks as Gad continues firing.
Gad: Where do you think you're going? No way you're just walking out of here. You come up here, kill my people... And think you can just leave? Fuck you!
Clem takes one of the arrows out of the post and stabs Gad's foot as he turns the corner. They wrestle for the bow, and AJ punches Gad in the groin, making him stumble backward. Clementine shoots Gad in the head with an arrow, and he falls into the water.
You have: MARLON'S BOW - One last fight.
Clementine: Come on!
AJ picks up James' mask.
Clementine and AJ run along the pier as the boat continues being destroyed.
Lilly is rowing away on a raft filled with supplies. Clem and Lilly point their bows at each other.
Lilly: I wouldn't if I were you. You already had your chance.
Lilly: You said we were family once. Must have been why you couldn't.
Lilly: I could have done the same, back at your school. I'd say we're even.
Lilly: Let's both just turn around and walk away.
AJ: Shoot her, Clem! She stabbed James in the back!
Lilly: Don't waste your arrows. This is over.
Clementine: What happened to you?! The Lilly I knew was hard, but never...evil.
Clementine fires at Lilly, but hits the raft.
(If Lee abandoned Lilly.)
Clementine: You're a coward. Abandoning your people just when they need you most.
(If Lee let Lilly stay.)
Clementine: You're really fucking good at abandoning your people. This time it's a raft instead of an RV.
Clementine says nothing.
Lilly: Without reinforcements, my people will lose their war. They'll die because of you. The Delta was the first place I called home, after years of wandering. After this, there won't be anything left to go back to.
Clementine: I know. Why don't you write a story about it? Call it "The Parable of Lilly".
Clementine fires at Lilly, but hits the raft.
Lilly: Nothing lasts, Clementine.
Clementine: It was us or them. I'm glad it was them.
Clementine: Good. You deserve to be alone.
AJ: That's what happens when you mess with us!
Lilly: Not friends, not love. Not the place you call home. They'll all fall eventually. Never forget that, or they'll drag you down too.
Clementine: Good luck out there, Lilly. I hope you find peace.
Clementine fires at Lilly, but hits the water.
Lilly: Yeah. Alright.
Lilly sighs and rolls her eyes.
Lilly: Fuck you, Clementine.
Clementine: If I see you again, I'll kill you.
Clementine: You're pathetic, Lilly. I hope you can live with yourself.
AJ: I hope you get bit out there!
AJ: I hope you get bit out there!
Clementine and AJ run as the ship falls over and explodes, disorienting them.
Beach
A walker approaches Clem, but Louis kills it with a rock.
AJ: Louis! You made it!
Louis: Yeah. Yeah, I did. I'm still kickin'. For better or worse.
AJ: I'm really sorry about your tongue. But at least you're still alive.
Clementine: "And that's how you school a walker."
Clem hugs Louis.
Clementine: You have no idea how happy I am to see you right now.
Louis: I think I have some idea.
Clementine: Thanks. I owe you one.
Louis: I'm pretty sure I owe you quite a few more.
Louis gives a thumbs-up.
Clementine says nothing.
Nearby, a walker grabs onto Violet's leg and tries to pull her into the water.
Violet: Get the fuck off of me!
AJ: Violet!
Louis kills the approaching walkers.
Clementine: Oh, my God, Violet...
Violet's face and eyes are burned.
Violet: Clem, where are you?
Clementine: Louis, get over here, she's hurt!
Violet: Where's Minnie?
Clementine: What? I don't know.
Violet: We headed towards the boiler room to stop the bomb, and I just...
Clementine: Whoa, slow down, you're--
Violet: Where is she?!
Clementine: Louis!
Louis runs over to Violet.
Louis: Okay, Vi, we've got you, come on.
Louis helps Violet stand up.
Clementine: Oh, shit. Can you... can you see?
Clementine: Are you okay?
Clem helps Violet stand up.
Violet: Yeah, my ass is a little singed, but I'm good.
Clementine and Violet hold hands.
Violet: Fuck, you... I was so afraid you...
Violet: Fuck. I can't believe that worked.
Louis runs over to Vi and smiles at her.
Violet: Lou...
Clementine: What happened to Minnie?
AJ: Clem!
The raiders are surrounded by the herd.
Louis: Shit. We can't stay here.
The group sneaks over and hides with Omar and Aasim.
Aasim: Oh, thank God.
Omar: You guys made it!
AJ: That's a whole lotta monsters.
Violet: Fuck, there's more walkers than I can count. That explosion drew them right to us.
Clementine: Stay cool, we knew this would happen.
AJ: Violet, are your eyes--
Clementine: We just have to get off this beach.
Clem looks around and sees Willy and Ruby near a cart and horse. Ruby calms the horse while Willy shoots his bow at the walkers.
Clementine: Look! They brought the cart around.
Aasim: Ruby, Willy!
Willy: Come on! We're getting out of here!
Sullene: There's no end to these little shits. Put 'em down.
Gina shoots at Willy and Ruby.
Aasim: Shit! Clem, do something!
Clementine shoots Gina in the neck.
Sullene: You!
Clementine ducks as Sullene shoots a pistol at her, but she is soon devoured by walkers.
Minerva: No! Get away from her!
Minnie shoots at the walkers, but soon runs out of ammo. She picks up Sullene's axe and continues killing the herd.
Louis: She's lost it!
Violet: What the hell is she doing? She's gonna get herself killed!
A walker bites Minnie's arm, and she kills it.
Omar: Oh, my God!
Clementine: We've got to break for it! Now! Everyone run for the cart. I'll stay back and cover you. I'll be right behind you. The second I see an opening, I'll make a break for it.
Omar and Aasim leave.
Violet: Clementine? The stuff I said on the boat, in the cell, I, uh...
Clementine: Worry about that later.
Violet leaves.
Louis: Right behind me?
Clementine: Yep, just like the ninja I am.
Louis kisses Clementine.
Louis: Be careful.
Louis leaves.
Violet kisses Clementine.
Violet: I'll see you on the other side.
Clementine: Damn right.
Violet leaves.Clementine: AJ, go with them.
AJ: No! I'm staying with you.
Clementine: Thanks, kiddo.
Clem shoots the walkers and the group safely makes it to the cart. Minnie gets bitten in the cheek, and she shoots the walker.
Minerva: Clementine!
Minnie picks up a grenade and pulls the pin.
Minerva: Fuck you! You ruined everything! Everyone is dead because of you!
Clementine shoots Minnie in the shoulder, making her drop the grenade.
Clementine: Shit!
Clem grabs AJ and dives away from the explosion. The horse Ruby is riding gets spooked and runs off with everyone except Clem and AJ in the cart. Minnie gets surrounded by the herd. Walkers emerge from the forest and water, and approach Clem and AJ. Tenn waves from the edge of the forest.
AJ: Tenn!
Clementine: Go!
AJ runs over to Tenn. Clem avoids the herd and reaches the two of them. A walker grabs her; she kicks it away, and Tenn stabs it. Clem takes the knife, and the three of them run off.
Cave
James stands near a cliff, wearing his mask and wielding two knives.
The group reaches the entrance of a cave in the cliff. Walkers follow them.
Clementine: We'll have to squeeze through there.
Tenn: We don't know where it goes...
Clementine: Well, we do know there's walkers in the other direction.
Tenn: But--
AJ: Move it, dummy!
AJ enters the cave, and Tenn follows suit.
James: I saw his eyes when he did it. I saw the bloodlust in them.
Clementine: What are you talking about?
Clementine enters the cave. James determinantly follows after her.
Clementine: We're safe, but not for long... Damn it, it's so dark in here.
James: We can't move forward without a way to see.
Clementine: I'll figure something out.
If Clementine looks at objects in a specific order, she will see a walker in a life preserver float down the stream.
The walkers are trying to get into the cave.
Clementine: Might look nice in our room. Just have to get home first.
Clementine: Damn it. It's all too wet to burn.
Clementine: Another one. Hm. Gotta get home before AJ can play with it.
Clementine: Water's moving fast. Too dark to tell how far it even goes.
Clementine: No way we're swimming through that.
Talk to James (James is alive)
James: If they get in here, I'm going to have to kill them. I don't want to do that.
Talk to AJ
AJ: It's so dark in here.
Clementine: I'm working on it.
AJ: It doesn't feel safe, there's too much danger outside. I wish I had a gun.
Clementine: We'll be out of here soon.
Talk to Tenn
Tenn: Clem, did you... did you see Minnie out there? I didn't see her anywhere. But that doesn't mean she escaped. I don't know.
Clementine: I saw her on the beach. She was bitten, Tenn.
Clementine: I'm sorry, I didn't see her.
Tenn: Maybe she made it off in time. Maybe I'll see her again. I hope.
Clementine examines the cave wall.
Clementine: Hmm...
Clem picks up a rock and strikes her knife against it, creating sparks.
Clementine: Perfect! Flint.
Clementine: I need something to burn.
Clementine: Need something to wrap the cloth around before I burn it.
You have: FLINT - Just a little spark.
Clem grabs the stick.
Clementine: Okay.
You have: STICK - This'll work as a base.
Clem examines a walker corpse.
Clementine: Hm.
Clem rips off a piece of its clothing.
Clementine: Need some way to start a fire.
Clementine: Can't burn this without something to hold it up.
You have: CLOTH - Dry enough to burn.
After Clementine collects the materials she needs, she creates a torch.
Clementine: Alright. Okay. Good. Look, there's another tunnel over there.
AJ: It's too far.
Clementine: Well, we just gotta... we gotta find something to help us cross.
James: The walkers are getting closer.
Tenn: Clem, the walkers are getting closer.
Clementine: Don't worry. We'll be home before you know it.
Clementine: Not sure where it goes, but it's our only option.
Clementine: Hmm. Rocks are too small to walk across. But they might stop something flowing downriver.
Clementine: Hm. Too far for us to jump across. There must be something we can use as a bridge.
Talk to AJ
AJ: Clem, are you gonna find a way across the water?
AJ: Clem, do you think James might wash down here?
Clementine: I'm not sure.
Clementine looks at a log.
Clementine: If I yank that out of there, it would drift down the river and get caught in the rocks. Could work as a bridge.
Clem pushes the log down the river, and it is stopped by the rocks.
Clementine: Okay. We just need to go across one by one, and then we'll move the rocks out of the way, and then I'll take--
A walker grabs Tenn.
James punches the walker, and it releases Tenn.
AJ throws a rock at the walker's head. He grabs Tenn's arm and pulls him away from the walker. A zombified James enters the cave.
Clementine: AJ! Get back!
AJ: Look at his eyes.
Clementine: AJ!
Clementine picks up the torch. The group walks to the other side of the river. Clem hits the walkers with the torch, lighting them on fire.
AJ: Clementine!
Clem starts to cross the river; the log shakes, but stays sturdy. The walkers accidentally throw themselves into the stream while trying to follow her. Clementine jumps to the riverbank just before a walker knocks the log loose. The group continues moving through the cave, and Clementine sets the torch down. If James is alive, he takes off his mask and drops it on the floor.
Clementine: Alright, which way do we go? Tenn, do you see a light down any of these tunnels?
James puts his hand on Clementine's shoulder.
James: You brought this on yourself.
James throws Clementine to the ground.
AJ: Clem!
James: But it's not too late.
James grabs AJ's arm.
AJ: Let go!
James: For him, at least.
Clementine gets up and charges at James, but he elbows her in the face, knocking her over.
James: Follow us and I sprain your ankle. Follow us after that, I break your leg.
Clementine: I won't let you take him!
James: And I won't let you make him a monster.
Clem gets up.
James: Not any further.
AJ: Clem!
James: Shh. You're coming with me.
Clementine: You're fucking crazy!
James: I warned you once. I won't do it again.
Clementine: What happened to not wishing anyone harm?!
Clementine: If you want to live, let him go. Don't test me.
James: None of this should be happening.
AJ bites James's hand and breaks free of him. He picks up a sharp rock.
AJ: I'll kill you before I leave her.
James reaches toward AJ, but he slices his hand with the rock.
James: (holds out hand) You did this.
James takes the rock from AJ and tosses it away.
James: You made him this way. When you had him empty an entire clip into that woman's head!
AJ: It was only half a clip.
James: Is this what you wanted?! A boy who only sees an answer at the end of a barrel?! Look at me and tell me this is what you wanted!
Clementine: She deserved to die and you know it!
James will remember that.
Clementine: You didn't see what she did to our friends. It's easy to judge when you don't have the facts.
James will remember that.
Clementine: Take this guilt trip of yours and shove it up your ass.
James will remember that.
James: This is how it begins. One drop at a time.
James: You told me you wouldn't let him become a killer.
Clementine: I've told you before. You don't get to tell me how to raise him.
AJ: I liked it. I liked killing her. It made me feel strong. I don't care if it was murder. I don't care if it was anything. It felt good. Best feeling I've had in a long time. Maybe ever.
Clementine: AJ, come on, I know you don't mean it.
AJ: If I shout it will you believe me then?!
Clementine: AJ, you talking like that? It scares me. Never think that again. And certainly never say it again.
Clementine: Alvin Junior! That is not what I taught you. Not about how you feel, how you treat people, how you think.
AJ: I'm teaching myself now.
Clementine: The wrong lessons.
AJ: Says you.
Clementine: I taught you killing Marlon was the right thing to do. I never said anything about finding joy in it.
Clementine: I never taught you to find joy in killing.
AJ: Why are you looking at me that way?
James: AJ, listen to me. The things Clementine has been telling you... she's wrong. What you're becoming is wrong.
Clementine: Stay out of this or I swear I'll claw your fucking eyes out!
AJ: Neither of you are listening! Anyone that wants to hurt us should be dead! And I'm not sorry about it and I'm not gonna feel bad about it!
Clementine: AJ...
AJ: You say I don't mean this when I'm only doing what you always say!
AJ: I don't know why you're scared, when you've always said for me to be like this!
AJ: You say you didn't teach me this, when you did!
AJ: You know you told me to be like this!
AJ: You always said surviving was the most important thing. Be strong! Be brave!
AJ: Never hesitate to kill people that want to hurt us!
AJ: And if I can't stop the bad people from killing me, kill myself first!
AJ: If something wants to hurt us, shoot it right in the head!
AJ: Killing Lilly made us safe. There's nothing wrong with liking that.
James: I can't listen to this. You think you can change him? Do it, then. Talk to him.
AJ: I'm not gonna stop, Clem. I'm not gonna let people that want to hurt us just... walk around. You can't tell me to stop and expect me to get it. You can't tell me to stop when you know it just confuses me.
Clementine: I know this world is hard. For us, for you especially. And killing... it's almost unavoidable these days. Having to do it, having to let you do it... we've learned we have to live with it. But you can't EVER like it.
AJ will remember that.
AJ: I don't know if I should have said "I liked it"... maybe I don't know the right words for what I felt. Aren't you glad Lilly's dead?
AJ: You just said she deserved it. You must be glad I killed her.
AJ: You wanted me to kill her. Aren't you glad I did?
Clementine: It's... it's complicated.
AJ: Because?
Clementine: Because...
AJ: Because why?
Clementine: When I asked you to shoot her, she was a threat, and, yes, I'm glad that threat's gone. But--
AJ: That's what I've been saying!
Clementine: You know I am, AJ. Lilly was a monster.
AJ: And we kill monsters.
Clementine: But the point is we can be glad they're gone, but not enjoy the act of... removing them.
Clementine: Whether or not I'm glad Lilly's gone isn't the point. We're talking about you.
AJ: You are talking about me. I'm trying to talk about us. It's always been us. I don't know why you're taking that away.
AJ: Because what, Clem?! Are you afraid to say you liked it too?
Clementine: I know this world is hard. For us, for you especially. But killing is making you lose yourself. So I won't let you kill again.
AJ: You told me to kill Lilly in the first place!
Clementine: AJ, cool it.
AJ: Why did you tell me to kill someone that you hate and then change your mind?!
Clementine: Because it's not making you safer. It's hurting you. It's killing you right back. Oh, AJ, you're just... you're just a little kid.
AJ will remember that.
Clementine: Because I make the rules, okay?! Do you think anyone gave me directions on how to raise you?! No! Because there aren't any. I made them all up just to try to keep you alive.
AJ will remember that.
Clementine: Just listen. You're not able to... process what it really means. Not yet.
AJ will remember that.
AJ: I don't even know what "process" means!
Clementine: Exactly. We've got a lot to work on, the two of us. I mean... you're just a little kid.
AJ: So are you.
Clementine: What?
AJ: You're a kid too, Clem. You try to act big all the time so I don't think about it, but you are. Maybe we both can't...process it.
AJ: You're not explaining it because you don't know how.
Clementine: I know this world is hard. For all of us, and for you especially. But there's more to it than... than just survival.
AJ: Like what?! Rule one: never go alone. The very first rule is about how to survive! Where are the rules that are more important than that? Why aren't they first? And why are you just telling me now? You can't just make up new rules, Clem. It confuses me.
Clementine: The older you get, the more rules you have to learn. Surviving is what you needed to learn first. But life gets more complicated. Everything gets more complicated. And that includes you.
AJ will remember that.
Clementine: Because I make the rules, okay?! Do you think anyone gave me directions on how to raise you?! No! Because there aren't any. I made them all up just to try to keep you alive.
AJ will remember that.
AJ: So you're saying there are rules... until you decide to change your mind.
Clementine: Look... surviving is different around people. We're not on the road anymore. Things change with people, rules change.
AJ will remember that.
AJ: What, like voting?
Clementine: Sure. But that's just one of them.
AJ: You know what? I think I understand. You're saying there are rules...until you change your mind.
James: AJ, listen to me. The world is hard--
AJ: No!
James: And that you had to grow up in it without knowing any other--
AJ: I know all about the other!
James: Clementine...
Clementine: I need you to hear me, AJ. You can't talk like this about killing anyone. Even Lilly.
James: I've heard enough. It's obvious you can't teach him!
James grabs AJ's arm, but he elbows him in the groin and runs over to Clementine. James charges forward; Clem steps in his path, but he grabs her.
Clementine: Get the fuck away from him!
James: You're not listening.
James throws Clementine to the ground. AJ throws a rock at his head.
AJ: We hear you. You just don't understand who we are.
James: I understand you. I've seen your kind. The world is full of you! I've been you! All you know is violence. Death. He could live a peaceful life. But... but it's like you won't let him! It might seem hard to believe, AJ. I know it does. But listen to me. No one has to die anymore. Not humans, not walkers.
Clementine: James, this "philosophy" of yours...
James: This "philosophy" is what has kept me human! It's what will keep any of us human!
Clementine: It takes more than words. You can't just talk people into being peaceful. You think I don't want a life like that for AJ? For myself? God, I'd love to live in a world where I didn't have to worry about killing or dying. But that's just not how things fucking work. Not yet. And what you're doing now isn't going to change that.
Your relationship with James has changed.
Clementine: It's like you read it out of a book of fairy tales, I swear to god. Where everyone could live in harmony if we all just wished hard enough. Open your eyes, James! The world isn't as simple as you like to make it sound!
James: So what is it, then?!
Clementine: It may not be kill or be killed. But it's awful goddamn close!
James will remember that.
James: I'll find my own way. Next time you need help, ask someone else.
Clementine: It's just reckless. The world we live in? The way you think is dangerous. No one can survive like this. Open your eyes, James! The world isn't as simple as you like to make it sound!
James: So what is it, then?!
Clementine: It may not be kill or be killed. But it's awful goddamn close!
James will remember that.
James: I'll find my own way. Next time you need help, ask someone else.
AJ: She means it's stupid. No one can live like that anymore.
James will remember that.
James: I'll find my own way. Next time you need help, ask someone else.
AJ: Clem?
Clementine: What is it?
AJ: He doesn't get it. Not like we do. Not like I do. Let me help you, Clem. Trust me to tell which people are bad. That I won't ever use my gun because I like it. But only to keep our friends safe. Please. You can trust me to decide when it's right.
Clementine: AJ? Still with me? AJ, please, we have to keep moving.
AJ: There's...there's nothing after this.
Clementine: What?
AJ: James isn't in there. He looked right at me and... and his eyes were empty. There's nothing after we die. Nothing but empty eyes.
Clementine: I know...
AJ: I know you do and I know you keep things from me.
(If Clem said James was crazy.)
Clementine: AJ, I told you before, James was--
AJ: Crazy.
(If Clem didn't say James was crazy.)
Clementine: AJ, I know he was your friend and I know this is terrible--
AJ: Please don't say you're sorry.
Clementine: We can't know for sure, AJ. There's a chance James was right...
AJ: I wish you would tell me the truth...
Clementine puts her hand on AJ's shoulder, and he elbows her away, knocking her to the ground.
AJ: Why did you make me make my friend go away?!
AJ: Why did you let my friend go away?! You knew I was waiting and you made me hesitate!
AJ: Everything is... just... just wrong. Like something spilled on the floor and you just can't get it back. Because you didn't let me shoot her.
Clementine: James' death is not on you. I made the call. And Lilly is the one who stabbed him.
AJ will remember that.
Tenn: And me. It's on me too. I--
AJ: Quiet!
Clementine: James shouldn't have even been there, AJ. None of this was supposed to happen.
AJ: What? I...I can't hold all of that in my head!
Clementine: AJ, every time you kill, you become a little harder. I'm scared of what you might become. Murdering Marlon was the start for you... I wanted to keep you safe from all this, I wanted to guide you--
AJ will remember that.
Clementine: Alvin Junior, you're acting out. You're not a baby anymore.
Clementine says nothing.
AJ: You say don't be soft, but everything that you do just messes up my head! Be strong! Be brave!
AJ: Never hesitate to kill people that want to hurt us!
AJ: And if I can't stop the bad people from killing me, kill myself first!
AJ: If something wants to hurt us, shoot it right in the head!
Clementine: AJ...
AJ: When we were talking with Abel, you stabbed him and stopped him from becoming a monster. You made killing look so easy.
AJ: When we were talking with Abel, you were really cruel letting him become a monster, even though he told us about the boat. You didn't kill him, but it was worse than killing.
AJ: And you burned him with the cigarette!
AJ: And you banged his head real hard on that desk!
AJ: You... you killed that guy when we were sneaking on the boat! You didn't have to, but you did! What made him different from Lilly?
AJ: You killed those guys when we were sneaking on the boat! You didn't have to, but you did! What made them different from Lilly?
Clementine: AJ, please. That's enough.
AJ: I'm sorry. I'm just scared something will take you away. Aren't you scared of that too? Having to leave the world behind. And me.
Clementine: Listen, kiddo, everyone is scared of dying. Of what happens after. Especially if it's nothing.
Clementine: Come on, we don't have to think about that now, okay? Let's get home, to safety.
Clementine: Kiddo, neither of us have to worry about that for a really long time.
AJ: I knew it.
AJ: I don't want people I care about to leave, Clem. I have to kill anyone that tries to take them away. I do.
AJ: You told me I was right to kill Marlon. But I think you were confused.
Clementine: By what?
AJ: I believed you when you called me a murderer about Marlon.
AJ: I know you thought that I was a murderer after Marlon. Even if you don't say it out loud.
AJ: I don't think that murder means the same thing as it did when you were little. In a world that's gone now. I think that murder now is just... protecting the people around you. Murder is a thing that makes us safe.
Clementine: I feel like I steered you wrong, AJ. If that's what you believe, I've failed you.
Clementine: Some part of me wants to say you're right. Maybe words do change.
Clementine: Enough, AJ! Murder is murder, nothing else. A human life is precious--
AJ: No. Food is precious. Bullets are precious. We need those to live. But we don't need bad people who make things wrong.
Clementine: You're too young to understand. You're just a child.
AJ: I can see it in your face. You know I'm right.
AJ: I know you want to be big for everyone, but you're just a kid, like me. Sometimes you're scared, just... like any other kid. So I'll help.
AJ: You said all the policemen and firefighters died. So I'm gonna be a new one.
AJ: You said I just might meet a firefighter one day. Until I do, I'm just going to be one.
AJ: I think I'm done playing with Tenn's toys. Firefighters and policemen. I'm just going to be one.
AJ: Even if I don't get it just right, I am. Because all it means is killing bad people who hurt other people. And I'm good at that. Like, I think I could be the best at killing bad people. Better than you, even, because I wouldn't hesitate.
Clementine: AJ, I'm starting to believe that you... like it. The killing. The... power of it.
Clementine: I think you'd be a good firefighter. But can you not be so angry?
AJ: What do you mean?
Clementine: AJ, that's not the future I want for you. I love you too much, and I see you slipping away. Getting more violent. More angry. More lost.
Clementine says nothing.
Clementine: Okay.
AJ: Really?
Clementine: You're growing up too fast, AJ, and that... that scares me. But you've seen things and... done things no one your age should have to do. You've earned my trust. If you say you won't ever enjoy killing, I believe you.
Clementine: Firefighters have to make the hard calls. Which means they deserve our trust. And if they kill to protect others, they're never happy about it.
AJ: Killing people doesn't make me happy, Clem.
Clementine: I'm sorry, AJ, you're just not ready for that.
Clementine: I don't think you're ready, AJ. You're too little.
AJ: You... you don't trust me?
Clementine: I can't trust you to make those calls.
AJ: You can't or you won't? Can't or won't?! Which one?!
Clementine: I've raised you since you were born, AJ. And it looks like I have a long way to go.
Your relationship with AJ has changed.
Wind blows through one of the tunnels in the cave.
Tenn: Feel that?
Clementine: (picks up torch) Yeah, that's the way out.
Walkers growl nearby.
James draws his knives.
James: Go. I'll make sure you won't be followed.
Clementine: Thank you.
AJ picks up James' mask.
Tenn: He left his mask behind.
You have collected: Skin Mask - Goodbye, James.
Clem puts the mask away.
Clementine: Come on.
The group leaves the cave. If James is alive and convinced, he begins to kill the walkers as they approach him.
Forest
The group exits the cave and enters the forest. The wind extinguishes the torch, and Clem drops it on the ground. They continue moving.
AJ seeks your approval above all else.
You've strengthened his confidence in himself.
You've shaken his confidence in himself.
Clementine: Coast is clear. If the shore is that way, the school is probably that way.
Tenn: Aasim was the third.
Clementine: Huh?
Tenn: The day after AJ killed Marlon. You already know Violet and I voted for you to stay. Aasim was the third vote.
AJ: Wait, that means... Omar voted us out? And... Ruby?
Tenn: Uh, yeah.
AJ: Huh.
Clementine: What made you think of that?
Tenn: Aasim said you knew how to survive. He could just tell the school would be safer with you there. I voted for you because I liked you, but his reason, it was better. I just... I just thought you should know. Aasim was right. We were safer. We were more scared than we let on, when you met us. You made that go away.
Clementine: As bad as Marlon was, he still saved me and AJ. And you nursed me back to health. We owed you for that.
Clementine: That's really nice of you to say, Tenn. Thank you.
Tenn: That's okay. Now that we're out of danger and going back home, it just made me think of it.
Clementine: Huh, well, I wouldn't call any of what's happened "safe".
AJ: I like Aasim. He's pretty smart.
Tenn: If Marlon was still in charge, we'd be taken away to wherever. Or dead. Instead, we fought back. Because you showed us how. We weren't safe with Marlon. Even in his "safe zone" we were just... hiding.
The group hears a noise, and Clementine draws her knife. Louis/Violet steps out from behind a tree.
AJ: Louis!
AJ, Clementine, and Tenn hug Louis.
Louis: You're not dead. That's good.
Clementine: Did everyone else escape?
Louis: (adjusts coat) Damn right. They took that cart and hauled ass back to the school.
Clementine: But you came to look for us.
Louis: Thought I lost you.
Louis and Clem hold hands.
Clementine: Only for a minute.
Louis: Never would've forgiven myself if I didn't.
Louis: It's over, Clem. The raiders are gone, and we got everyone out alive. Ruby said Violet's eyes aren't infected, so that's good too. They'll all be waiting for us back home.
Clementine: Any idea which way that is?
Louis: I haven't been out here in a while, but I think there's a bridge... that way. It's the fastest way back.
Clementine: Let's go.
The group continues moving.
Clementine: How's the hand?
Louis: It hurts like hell. But it could have been a lot worse.
Clementine: It'll be weird at first. You'll look at your hand and get a little shock when your finger's not there, but that goes away.
Louis: I killed that woman. Back on the boat.
Clementine: Was that your first?
Louis: Yeah... my first. It feels... like bile, but not quite, you know? Or like a scream that doesn't know if it should or not.
Clementine: You have a tendency to beat yourself up, Louis. But don't do it now, because you did great back there.
Louis will remember that.
Clementine: Let's get out of this first, okay? There'll be plenty of time to talk about it when we get home.
Louis will remember that.
Clementine: It'll get easier. I promise.
Louis will remember that.
Louis: I'm just glad to know I have it in me, at all.
Louis: Having a home means defending it.
Clementine: Yeah. Yeah, it does.
Louis: I really thought we were gonna die on that boat. The dumbest shit always goes through my head when that happens. My old pet turtle, Geoff, my grandma's phone number, the word that lost me the fourth-grade spelling bee: recommend. Stupid shit.
Clementine: Anything new this time?
Louis: Before my parents divorced, they were building a house. I begged my dad to put in a skylight. Begged. "Please, if you love me, you'll do it!" That shit definitely didn't work. So we made a deal. I got straight A's, he'd put in a skylight.
Clementine: And you remembered the skylight just now?
Louis: They never got to build the house. I don't even know what color it was gonna be. I should've asked. Sure should've...
Clementine: I hope it was really, really, really bright yellow.
Louis: Oh, my God, why?
Clementine: Because then it'd be loud and obnoxious. Just like you.
Louis: I accept this.
Clementine giggles.
Clementine: Maybe it was gonna be pink?
Louis: Pink?
Clementine: What? Too girly for you?
Clementine: You know what? I'll bet it was white. Like my house.
Louis: You lived in a white house?
Clementine: Yup.
Louis: But not the White House, right?
Clementine: Uh, no.
Clementine: Well, what color did you hope it was?
Louis: Oh, uh... well... Maybe purple?
Clementine: Is that your favorite color?
Louis: No, but you don't see a lot of purple houses. Why not stand out?
Clementine: Of course you'd say that.
Louis: You know what? I hope it was purple.
Clementine: Is that your favorite color?
Louis: No, but you don't see a lot of purple houses. Why not stand out?
Clementine: Of course you'd say that.
Louis: Okay, I'm starting to visualize the place... How many floors? Even number? Odd? How many?
Clementine: Up to you, Lou. How many floors do you want?
Louis: Hmm. Four. First floor: giant swimming pool. Second floor: combination pizza parlor and movie theater. Third floor: beds, bathrooms, all that crap. Fourth floor: entrance to giant water slide that goes down to the first floor swimming pool. Done.
Clementine: Um... nine hundred... and fourteen.
Louis: That's outrageous.
Clementine: Yeah.
Clementine: You only really need one. I grew up in a two-story house, and you get tired of stairs pretty quick.
Clementine: You gotta have at least three.
Louis: You gotta, huh?
Clementine: Walkers hate stairs. The more floors, the better.
Louis: Let's go with four. Here's the breakdown. First floor: giant swimming pool. Second floor: combination pizza parlor and movie theater. Third floor: beds, bathrooms, all that crap. Fourth floor: entrance to giant water slide that goes down to the first floor swimming pool. Done.
Louis: I like what I'm seeing, I could definitely live there. Gimme a last flourish, though. One thing to really bring it all together. C'mon, the coup de grace. The "insert other French phrase here". What's it gonna be?
Clementine: How were your grades?
Louis: They would've been straight A's!
Clementine: Then it looks like we're putting in a skylight.
Louis: Thanks, Dad!
Clementine: You're creative. Be creative.
Louis: A brand-new piano. Mahogany. The color of leaves in autumn. Unbreakable and always in tune.
Clementine: Yeah, you can teach AJ to play.
Clementine: A treehouse. Duh.
Clementine: I think a statue of me might be a nice addition.
Louis: My grades would've been straight A's. I earned a goddamn skylight.
Louis: (adjusts coat) We get back to the school, we are building that house.
Clementine: You really think we can?
Louis: Maybe not ALL nine hundred floors...
Clementine: And fourteen.
Louis: I really hope we can.
Tenn: Can I help?
Louis: Of course you can. You're in charge of painting. C'mon. We got a home to build.
AJ: Violet!
Tenn and AJ hug Violet.
Violet: You made it. You're all alive.
Clementine hugs Violet.
Violet: I couldn't believe you were really dead. I had to try and find you.
Violet and Clem hold hands.
Clementine: Did everyone else escape?
Violet: Yeah, they're okay. They took the cart and headed back to the school. We're safe, Clem. All we gotta do now is find our way home.
Clementine: Any idea which way that is?
Violet: I know an old bridge near here. If we cross it, we won't be too far from the school.
The group continues moving.
Clementine: How's your hand feeling?
Violet: It'll be fine, once it scabs over.
Clementine: The worst is when it itches. It feels like your finger's still there, and it itches. But there's nothing to scratch.
Violet lifts her middle finger.
Violet: While we were looking for you guys, and I... I thought you might be... gone for good... Um, shit. I was trying to figure out what I'd do if you were gone, and I realized how goddamn stupid I was. About Minnie. For a whole fucking year. I was so wrapped up in losing her and Sophie, I pushed away everyone who tried to care about me. Marlon, Brody, Louis. Even you and AJ. I tried my damnedest not to care about either of you. And I still couldn't tell you why.
Clementine: Because you were afraid of losing someone else. It's understandable.
Violet will remember that.
Clementine: I know where you're coming from. After losing so many people, sometimes it's easier to keep everyone at arm's length.
Violet will remember that.
Clementine: Well, you screwed up, because you did care about me.
Violet will remember that.
Violet: Yeah, I did. Way more than I meant to. I'm still kind of amazed we found each other, you know?
Violet: I didn't expect to find a friend like you, not ever again. But I'm really glad I did.
Clementine says nothing.
Violet: Jesus. Everything's so different now. Me, us. The school. I remember how Marlon described it, what we were gonna turn Ericson into. It's not the way any of us pictured it.
Clementine: How did you picture it?
Violet: I guess I couldn't. I just listened to what Marlon said. How it would be a home, a real one. But I couldn't really wrap my head around it. My family lived in a trailer. What about you? Where'd you live?
Clementine: I lived in a house, with my mom and dad. Fence around it. Big backyard.
Violet: What was your favorite part of the house?
Clementine: The kitchen.
Violet: Really? Why?
Clementine: I had a treehouse in the backyard. I used to take my walkie-talkie up there and play for hours. I'd pretend it was a ship and I was the pirate captain, or it was an igloo and I was a hunter. Ooh, or a castle, and I was a princess.
Violet: Really? Like with frilly dresses and a tiara?
Clementine: Yeah, but also a sword. A warrior princess.
Violet: Yeah, obviously.
Clementine: I liked my bedroom. My parents painted flowers on the walls, and I had this little white bookcase.
Violet: What kinds of books?
Clementine: Well, one of my favorites was about a family of kids living in the woods together, in this old, abandoned train car. Then it turned out they had this rich grandfather who took them to live in his mansion.
Violet: Hm. You got a rich grandpa who'll take us away from all this?
Clementine: Mm, I don't think so.
Violet: I've always wanted a basketball hoop.
Clementine: You know, Ericson can still be the home Marlon promised. As soon as we get back, we'll start rebuilding.
Violet: It'll be a lot of work, but you're right. It is worth it.
Violet: The kitchen's a mess, but maybe we could find some old pans and start a Saturday pancake routine.
Clementine: Sounds great, but I'm not sure when Saturday is.
Violet: How about this: it's whenever we want pancakes.
Violet: Hell, we could even put in a treehouse.
Clementine: Yeah, we could put it in one of those trees with the big rock traps.
Violet: Then you could drop a rock on anybody who wanders by.
Clementine: Way better than a hammer.
Violet: What?
Clementine: We've already got a belltower.
Violet: Okay, we'll build a belltower-house.
Violet: We'll have to move some bookcases into your room. Then you can read us stories about train cars and rich grandpas.
Clementine: We could put in your basketball hoop.
Violet: Yeah. You and I could play pickup.
Violet: After all that's happened, it's still hard to imagine. I mean, we fought for it. Defended it. It should feel more like home than ever. But it doesn't. You know what the problem is? That stupid fucking name, "Ericson".
Clementine: You wanna rename it?
Violet: Yeah, fuck that guy. We should name it something cool. Threatening, but not, like, scary. Something that makes assholes go, "I should stay away," but not, like, "Blood Murder Knife House".
Clementine: What about... The Rotting Shithole?
Clementine: You name it. It was your idea.
Violet: Texas. We're calling it Texas.
Clementine: You can't just name it Texas.
Clementine: Happy Sunshine Land.
Violet: Oh, God... You know what? That's even worse!
Clementine: Welcome to Happy Sunshine Land! And here's Mayor Violet!
Violet: No, no, damn it. I... I hate it!
Clementine: How about Castle Violet?
Violet: Oh, no, we can't name it after me.
Clementine: You're probably less of an asshole than "Ericson".
Violet: Ugh, I hope. But still, no.
Clementine: Too late. It's Castle Violet.
Violet: Well, given you have no suggestions, I guess it's on me. Texas. We're calling it Texas.
Clementine: You can't just name it Texas.
Tenn: I want to help rebuild our school.
Violet: You will, Tenn. We all will. We can start as soon as we get back.
Violet: Let's get home to The Rotting Shithole.
Violet: Let's get home to Castle Violet.
Violet: Let's get home to... Happy Sunshine Land.
Violet: Let's get home to Texas Two.
Bridge
The group reaches a dilapidated bridge.
Clementine: Okay. Just take your time. And keep moving forward.
The group walks across and jumps over a truck. They reach a part of the bridge that has is broken, creating a gap.
AJ: That's... far.
Tenn: Really far.
Louis: I think we can jump it.
Violet: Should be able to jump it. It's not that far.
Clementine: Yeah, I think we can. We just gotta be careful not to land too hard.
Minerva: (singing) Never mind the darkness. Never mind the storm. Never mind the blood-red moon. The night will be over soon.
Minnie, holding an axe and covered in blood, approaches the group.
Tenn: Minnie!
Tenn takes a step forward, but stops when he sees the herd of walkers following Minnie.
Minerva: I did it! I found you! Oh, Tenn... My sweet little brother. Come with me.
Tenn: You're dying.
Minerva: Yes! Yes, I am. I'm finally going someplace better. I want you there with me.
Tenn: Where everyone gets to be a person again...
Minerva: We're gonna go be with Mom, and Dad, and Sophie. Together. It won't be real if you're not there.
Clementine: Tenn, snap out of it! She wants to kill you!
Clementine: Tenn, look at me. I know that looks like her, but your sister is gone.
Clementine: Tenn, please, don't do anything stupid.
AJ: Don't let her trick you.
AJ: She's not the person you loved anymore. She just looks like her. Don't let it trick you.
Minnie fires a pistol into the air, drawing the walkers.
Minerva: Don't you fucking speak to him! Any of you.
The group hides behind the truck.
Minerva: He needs to be with his family.
Clementine: Don't do this.
Minerva: Don't worry, Tenn. She can try to stop me. But I'm not going anywhere without you. The night will be over soon.
Tenn stands up. Clementine reaches toward him, but takes cover when Minnie fires at her.
Clementine: Get down!
AJ tackles Tenn. The walkers approach the group.
Louis: I'll get the kids across the gap! Don't let the walkers get close!
Violet: I'll help the boys across the gap! Watch out for the walkers!
Clementine shoots at the walkers, and Minnie shoots at Clementine. When Clem fires at Minnie, she pulls a walker in front of her to take the hit instead. Louis/Violet returns to Clementine.
Louis: AJ's across! I can't get Tenn to budge.
Violet: I got AJ across, but Tenn won't budge!
Tenn crouches on the bridge, his hands over his head.
Clementine: I have to stop her!
Clementine gets up; Minnie stands on the truck, and kicks her in the face, knocking her down and making her drop her weapon. Minnie jumps down and swings the axe, but Clementine dodges it, and the axe gets stuck in the bridge. A walker grabs Clem's leg, and Louis/Violet shoots it with the bow. Minnie charges at them, making them collapse and drop the bow into the water.
Minerva: You are not his family!
Minnie tries to fire her gun, but it's out of ammo.
Minerva: You're just something in my way.
Minnie reloads the gun, but Clementine jumps up and grabs it. They wrestle for the weapon, and Clem headbutts Minnie, knocking her down. Clem points the gun at her, but Minnie spits blood in her face, disorienting her and making her fire blindly. Minerva picks up the axe and gashes Clementine's leg; she falls and drops the gun. Clementine picks it up as Minnie raises the axe.
Minerva: I'm taking Tenn home! I'm going home!
Clementine shoots Minnie in the shoulder; she drops the axe and stumbles backward. Walkers grab and bite her.
Tenn: Minnie! Minnie!
Tenn runs up to Minerva and reaches toward her.
Clementine gets up. She throws the axe across the bridge, then jumps, dropping the gun.
Louis: Tenn, we have to go, now!
Violet: Tennessee! Move your fucking ass, now!
AJ picks up the gun.
Minerva: No!
Louis: Tenn, fucking move!
AJ: Let him go! You'll die if you don't!
You trusted AJ to make the hard calls.
AJ shoots Tenn in the neck.
Louis: No! No!
Clementine: Louis, jump!
Clementine: Violet, please jump!
Violet jumps across.
Walkers devour Tenn.
Minerva: That's right. Come with me.
Louis: What the fuck?! How could you just shoot him like that?!
AJ: I had to!
AJ: You'd never see your treehouse if I didn't.
AJ: You'd never see your new home if I didn't.
AJ: You'd never see your skylight if I didn't.
AJ: I did it for you.
Louis: Tenn's dead. He's dead! Do you realize that?! Look!
Louis turns AJ toward the other side of the bridge.
Louis: He's... he's gone, because of you. Just fucking gone.
Clementine: I know how you're feeling, but now is not the time. We'll talk about this later, when we're safe.
Clementine: AJ saved your life, Louis. Tenn was gonna get you killed.
Louis will remember that.
Clementine: AJ didn't mean it, Louis. He was trying to clear the walkers and you--
Louis: Tenn was just a little boy!
Violet: No! What the fuck?! How could you do that?!
AJ: I had to!
AJ: You wouldn't ever get to see your home again if I didn't!
AJ: You wouldn't ever see "Castle Violet" if I didn't.
AJ: You wouldn't ever get to "Happy Sunshine Land" again if I didn't!
AJ: You wouldn't ever see "Texas Two" if I didn't!
AJ: I did it for you!
Violet: For me? I can't... Tenn is gone! That soft little boy who liked to draw, he's gone, because of you!
Clementine: Now's not the time, Violet! We can talk about this later, when we're safe.
Clementine: AJ saved your life, Vi. You'd be dead if he hadn't taken that shot.
Violet will remember that.
Clementine: AJ didn't mean it, Violet. He was shooting at the walkers, trying to buy some time--
Clementine says nothing.
AJ: I didn't want to shoot him! He was my first real friend! But he was messing up again. Just like when he got Mitch killed. So I had to decide. Clem said I could, so I did.
Walkers approach the group.
Clementine: We gotta move.
You didn't trust AJ to make a call.
AJ: Throw him!
Louis/Violet throws Tenn across the bridge, but gets devoured by walkers.
Clementine: No!
Walkers approach the group.
Clementine: We gotta move.
Tenn: I... I did that...
AJ slaps Tenn.
AJ: Wake up! Now! Or we'll die too!The group leaves the bridge.
Road
AJ: The monsters are gonna trap us!
Clementine: I know.
Louis/Violet/Tenn runs over to a chain link fence.
Louis: Uh... I'll-- I'll climb over first, then help you climb down the other side! (climbs over fence) Come on, almost there!
Clementine: Louis!
Louis: Oh, fuck!
Walkers surround Louis, and he kicks one in the knee.
Violet: I'll climb first and I'll catch you on the way down! (climbs over fence) Come on!
Clementine: Vi!
Violet: Shit!
Walkers surround Vi, and she kicks one in the knee.
Tenn: I'll climb, then help you down! (climbs over fence) Hurry!
Clementine: Tenn!
AJ: Clem, look out!
A walker approaches Clementine, and AJ shoots it.
Louis: Damn it, there are too many!
Clementine: Go! We'll find another way!
Louis: What about you?! You're trapped!
Violet: Aw, fuck.
Clementine: Violet, run! Meet us back at the school!
Violet: But--
Tenn: There's too many!
Clementine: Go! We'll find another way!
Louis/Violet/Tenn runs off. Clementine kills a walker.
AJ: Clem, we can climb there!
Clementine: Good idea. This first.
Clem throws the axe to the top of the cliff.
AJ: Clem!
Clementine: I got you.
Clem helps AJ climb up.
Clementine: Go, I'm right behind you!
Clem climbs up the cliff.
AJ: Grab on!
Clementine reaches for AJ's hand, but a walker grabs her and bites her leg.
AJ: No!
AJ shoots some of the walkers. Clem kicks away the one biting her, or AJ shoots it. With AJ's help she climbs to the top of the cliff.
AJ: Clem... your leg...
Clementine examines her injury.
Clementine: I got bit. C'mon. We can't stay here. (gets up) Keep moving forward. Keep moving... forward. Keep moving.
Clementine stumbles and falls.
Clementine: Keep... moving.
AJ: Forward.
Clementine: Forward.
Clem gets up, and she and AJ continue moving.
Barn
The sun is rising as Clem and AJ walk through the forest, still pursued by walkers.
Clementine: Hey. I love you. Don't ever forget that.
Clementine: Stop thinking about it, AJ. There's nothing we can do.
AJ: There's gotta be something.
Clementine: I'm going to be okay, AJ. We have to focus on getting back.
Clementine says nothing.
Clementine: Keep moving forward.
AJ: Look! James' barn! It's empty now. We'll be safe in there.
Clementine: Run! Now!
AJ runs ahead. He and Clementine kill some of the walkers, but more approach.
Clementine: Move! Go, AJ! Run! I'm right behind you.
AJ runs up to the barn and opens the door. Clementine limps forward and falls. A walker approaches, and AJ shoots it.
AJ: C'mon, Clem! We can make it!
AJ helps Clem stand up and enter the barn. Clementine tries to hold the door closed, and AJ does the same.
Clementine: We need to find something to stick between the handles.
Clem picks up the rope, then drops it.
Clementine reaches toward the pitchfork. AJ picks it up.
Clementine: Quick! Bar the door!
A walker partially opens the door. AJ stabs it and pushes it away, and Clem shuts the door.
Clementine: Jam it through!
AJ puts the pitchfork between the door handles. Walkers start to break through the sides of the barn.
Clementine: We need to get these pen doors closed... before they break through.
Clem steps forward, but falls. She leans against a pile of hay. She tries to get up, but fails. AJ offers the gun.
AJ: Cover me.
Clementine takes the gun. AJ closes a stall door.
Clementine: We can't let them get inside. Hurry!
AJ almost closes another other stall door, but a walker reaches through and opens it.
AJ: Clem!
Clementine shoots the two walkers, and AJ closes the door.
Clementine: AJ! Over there!
AJ tries to close the stall door, but it is tied up with a rope. He moves the wheelbarrow.
Clementine: Hurry, AJ! Cut it!
Clem tosses the knife to AJ, and he picks it up.
You have: CLEM'S KNIFE - She needs me.
AJ climbs up the wheelbarrow and cuts the rope. A walker grabs him, and he stabs it in the hand. Clementine shoots it, and AJ closes the door. More walkers enter the barn, and Clem tries to shoot them, but is out of ammo. AJ kills the walkers.
Clementine: We can't let them get inside.
AJ almost closes the door, but a walker reaches through. AJ kills it, kicks it away, and closes the door.
Clementine: Good job, AJ. You did it.
AJ: Now what?
Clementine: You need to find a way out of here.
AJ: We can climb up there. The monsters can't reach us up there. Let's go. Easy climb. C'mon. Please... try.
Clem tries to get up, but fails.
AJ: You can't give up! You can't give up! I need you! I need you...
Clementine: I'm so sorry, kiddo. This is just what happens sometimes.
Clementine: Come on, kid, don't be upset. This is just what happens sometimes.
Clementine: You don't need me. Not anymore. Look what you did. All by yourself.
Clementine says nothing.
Clementine: My little goofball.
AJ: It's Alvin Junior.
Clementine: You'll always be goofball to me. Hey, look at me. AJ, please.
AJ kneels next to Clementine, and she touches his cheek.
Clementine: You're such a cutie. How did I get so lucky? (taps AJ's nose) Gotcha.
AJ: Please... don't... don't be silly right now. Not right now. Please.
Clementine: I just wanted to see you smile. One last time.
Clementine: What? Your nose was dirty. Someone had to clean it.
Clementine: Hey, there's always time to be silly.
AJ: Not this time.
Clementine says nothing.
Clementine: I need to make sure you remember.
AJ: Remember what?
Clementine: The rules. What's number one?
AJ: Never... never go alone. So... so I can't leave. Not without you.
Clementine: AJ...
AJ: It's your rule!
Clementine: You won't be alone. Not for long. Get back to the school.
AJ: I don't know how.
Clementine: Sure you do. One of the first things I ever taught you. You need to make sure they can't smell you. So...
Clem looks at the axe.
Clementine: Grab that axe.
Clementine: You know what to do with it.
AJ picks it up. Clem looks at the walker.
Clementine: There's a fresh, juicy walker just waiting to be gutted.
Clementine: You can use the axe to open it up. Cover yourself in walker guts.
AJ: I know how to do it, Clem.
AJ chops open the walker and covers himself in its guts.
Clementine: Next rule: what do we do when the monsters come?
AJ: Clem...
Clementine: AJ...
AJ: Shoot them in the head.
Clementine: Got any more ammo?
AJ: There isn't any more.
Clementine: Okay, then. Fuck. And...the last rule?
AJ: I want to stay. With you. I know what will happen. And... and I don't care. I don't want to go. I just want to sit next to you and... and stay. Like that monster couple, from the train station.
AJ: Even if someone kills us later. We'll just sit for a really long time.
AJ: No one would hurt us. Just... sitting. Forever.
AJ: Please. Let me stay.
Clementine: Sorry, kid, but, no. I have a job for you. I need you to get back to your room, I need you to sleep in your bed, and have friends and grow tall. Taller than I ever was, I hope. I need you to live, AJ. For me. That's your job now.
Clementine: No way, goofball. I worked way too hard for that. You're going home. And that's where you're gonna stay.
Clementine: I don't want you to leave, either.
AJ: Then don't make me!
Clementine: But it's not about what I want. It's about what you need. And you need to go.
AJ: I know, I just... I had to ask.
Clementine: Last rule.
AJ: No...
Clementine: What do we do if I get bit? Are you gonna make me say it? Fine.
Clementine: AJ, you have to kill me. Don't let me become one of them. Be a good boy. Kill me.
Clementine: Just leave.
AJ: I can't let you turn into a monster.
AJ: But before, you said...
AJ: No...
AJ brings the axe down on Clementine.
Flashback
Clementine is riding a horse in the forest.
Clementine: AJ... I'm coming.
Clem sees a ranch, which is on fire.
Clementine: No.
Clem rides up to the entrance, and Rodney shoots her horse. She uses the horse as cover and shoots him. He tries to fire at her, but his gun is out of ammo.
Interrogate Rodney
Clementine: I'm looking for a boy. He's about three years old. His name's Alvin Junior--
Rodney gives Clementine the middle finger.
Clementine enters the ranch, and a scorched man trapped under debris grabs her foot.
Lloyd: Please. Please. Please kill me.
Question Lloyd
Clementine: Where are the children?
Lloyd: It hurts. Oh, my god, it hurts so bad. Kill me. Kill me!
Clementine shoots Lloyd in the head.
Clementine leaves Lloyd alone.
Lloyd's Comments
Lloyd: Don't leave me.
Lloyd: Come back. Please.
Lloyd: I beg of you.
Lloyd: No, no, no!
Clementine continues moving through the ranch. Three people are fired upon, and two of them die. Eddie shoots back at the unseen attackers.
Eddie: Eat some of this shit! Another one? Fuck you!
Clementine hides as Eddie shoots at her. As he reloads, she shoots him in the shoulder.
Eddie: Ahhhh! You stupid asshole!
Clem runs up to Eddie and points her gun at him.
Clementine: I'm not messing around! Tell me where the kids are!
Eddie: Jesus! Alright, alright. That way... (points) There's a nursery. But I'm not letting one of you savages take a kid!
Eddie pulls out a knife; Clementine grabs his arm and shoots him in the neck. Clem moves past a car and walks up to the door of the nursery.
Helen: Sorry... Sorry... So sorry. Don't worry. We're leaving soon. I've just got to grab a few things. Just a few more things and we'll leave. Soon, we'll be far, far away from here.
Clementine opens the door.
Helen: No! I won't let you...
Helen draws a gun, and Clementine shoots her in the face.
Clementine: AJ...
Clem tries to open the locker, but it's locked.
Clementine looks at the wound.
You have: Gun - I had to shoot her.
You have: BABY BOTTLE - She was taking care of him.
Clementine picks up the key.
You have: LOCKER KEY - I'm sorry.
Clementine opens the locker. AJ is curled up inside it, crying and covered in Helen's blood.
Clementine: AJ. It's me. Clem.
Clem picks up AJ, and he screams upon noticing Helen's dead body.
Clementine: Let's get you out of here, okay?
Clem walks out of the nursery and puts AJ in the car, then gets in the driver's seat. She wipes the blood off his face with a rag.
Clementine: Okay. Now. Where to? Can't go back to Richmond... this whole area is a war zone. Gotta...
AJ: Go?
Clementine: Yeah. We have to go, AJ. This place, we can't stay here. It's not safe. But it's okay. We're survivors. And the first rule of survival is... Never go alone.
AJ: Never go alone. Clem?
Clementine: That's right. AJ...
Clementine: I'm so sorry. For everything.
Clementine: I've really missed you. So much.
Clementine: Don't worry, okay? We're gonna be okay. Everything is gonna be okay.
Clementine says nothing.
Clementine: I know where we'll go. We'll go find ourselves a new home. Together. And I'll never leave you again.
Clem puts her hand on the stick shift, and AJ puts his hand on top of hers. Clem starts the car.
River
AJ is at the fishing shack. He aims his spear.
AJ spears a fish.
AJ: Gotcha.
AJ puts the fish in the bucket.
AJ misses.
AJ: Fuck you, fish.
AJ: Shit.
AJ: Dang it.
AJ aims his spear.
AJ spears a fish.
AJ: Gotcha.
AJ puts the fish in the bucket.
AJ: Fucking shit, come on!
AJ: Shit, shit!
AJ: Oh, come on.
AJ aims his spear.
Rosie barks at AJ.
AJ: I wish you knew how to talk. Fishing's kinda lonely.
AJ: Are you making fun of me? Those eyes don't lie. I know what I'm doing, zip it.
AJ: Who's a good girl? It's you, Rosie. Goodest girl in the world.
AJ: You like me now? Yeah, you like me. And I like you too.
AJ aims his spear.
AJ spears a fish.
AJ: Boom-boom.
(If AJ has not already missed three times.)
AJ spears a fish.
AJ: Boom-boom.
AJ puts the fish in the bucket.
AJ: Fucking shit, come on!
AJ: Shit, shit!
AJ: Oh, come on.
AJ aims his spear.
AJ aims his spear.
AJ spears a fish.
AJ: There we go.
(If AJ has not already missed three times.)
AJ spears a fish.
AJ: There we go.
AJ puts the fish in the bucket.
AJ: Fucking shit, come on!
AJ: Shit, shit!
AJ: Oh, come on.
AJ aims his spear.
AJ: Alright, girl. (pets Rosie) I'm gonna go put the spear away. Stay here and keep watch.
AJ enters the fishing shack.
AJ: Huh.
AJ: It's getting kinda cold. I'll bring some sticks and stuff next time.
AJ: Looks like a bad place to sleep.
AJ: Nothing good.
AJ: I should tell Willy this is here, in case we need more bombs.
AJ: Beds are pretty good. Better than the ground.
AJ: "This place is... cur-- Cursed". That's scary. And mean. I think this place is good.
AJ: "V + M". Violet plus Minnie. She used to be their friend. How can someone just make that go away?
AJ scratches out the heart with his knife.
AJ: I gotta put the spear back.
AJ puts the spear back on the wall and leaves the shack.
Rosie barks and charges forward.
AJ: Rosie!
AJ draws his knife and runs down the steps to see Tenn petting Rosie.
Tenn: Hey, there. I know, I know.
Tenn hugs Rosie. AJ puts his knife away.
AJ: Tenn?
Tenn: Hey, AJ.
AJ: Hey. Everyone thought you died. Because, you know, you're you.
Tenn: No, I'm okay.
AJ: Good.
Tenn hugs AJ.
Tenn: I'm... I'm sorry I didn't listen to you, or Clem. I'm sorry. I don't know why I mess up all the time. I'm just... I'm really sorry. I wish it was different.
AJ: You just always do dumb stuff, Tenn. Always, like you can't help yourself.
AJ: Sorry doesn't bring them back.
AJ: It doesn't bring Louis back.
AJ: It doesn't bring Violet back.
Tenn: Please don't shoot me!
AJ: What...?
AJ: It's alright.
Tenn: You're still mad, though.
AJ: I didn't say that.
Tenn: But you are. I can tell. Please don't shoot me!
AJ: What...?
AJ: You loved your sister so much that you let her mess with your head. She was probably a lot different before, and that's all you could remember, and so you made a mistake.
Tenn: You're just being really nice to me.
AJ: I mean it. It's... it's okay, what you did, because of all that. I don't...
AJ: I don't think Louis would be mad at you.
AJ: I don't think Violet would be mad at you.
AJ: I thought a lot about it, and I've felt a lot of ways about it. Then I decided to forgive you.
Tenn: I was worried that you would be angry. I was scared because... you know, you're you.
AJ: It's probably because of all the trauma that's on you. Clem told me.
AJ: She said it never goes away.
AJ: If you find it, you're supposed to just sock it right in the mouth. I don't know where to find it, though.
AJ: We just have to find a doctor to fix you.
AJ: But she never said how to make it go away.
Tenn: So I'm just going to mess up all the time?
AJ: Probably forever, yeah.
Tenn: Oh, hey. I found this way down the river. (takes out hat) Sorry it's so wet. I almost fell in when I got it.
AJ takes Clementine's hat.
You have: CLEM'S HAT - It's wet. And smells bad.
Tenn: I figured you would want it back.
AJ: Yeah. I do.
Tenn: You should wear it.
AJ: No, my hair's too big on my head.
Tenn: AJ?
AJ: Why did it take you so long to come back?
Tenn: At first, I was ashamed. So I followed the river for a long time, just thinking about Minnie and...
AJ: Yeah?
Tenn: I found their bodies. I saw what the walkers did to them. They were... just bones and stuff. Meat. I could still tell who they were. By their clothes, I mean. But their faces... They didn't look like them anymore. They smelled awful.
AJ: You shouldn't have done that. Looked at them when they were like that.
Tenn: Why not?
AJ: Did you bury them?
Tenn: Yeah. Under some rocks.
AJ: Stop. I know I asked, but I don't want to hear about this. About what they looked like.
AJ: That's really sad.
Tenn: Kind of.
AJ: Kind of?
AJ: Yuck. That's... gross.
Tenn: Kind of.
AJ: Kind of?
AJ: That's really sad and... really gross.
Tenn: Kind of.
AJ: Kind of?
Tenn: I covered them with rocks, and made crosses out of sticks and roots.
Tenn: Do you know what "naive" means?
AJ: No, Clem never taught me that one.
Tenn: Do you remember that drawing I made for you the night Brody died? With the house and the walkers and my sisters and me?
AJ: I remember. You said sometimes you drew your sisters like the walkers left them instead.
Tenn: Naive means you think a certain way because you don't know the way it really is. When I saw Minnie's body for real... how the walkers left her... I realized those drawings were stupid. That house will never be real. I'll never meet my sisters again. The only thing real is when we're alive. I don't think I really know anything about the world, AJ. I think you do. Can... can you teach me to be like you instead? The way I think just gets people in trouble. I don't want to be why someone dies. Ever again. I've just been thinking about it all wrong. You save people, though. I've seen it. I want to be like that.
AJ: Okay. Everything I know? I'll tell you about it. The first rule is never go alone.
AJ: No. You can't just stop being an artist, Tenn, you're too good at it. It's the thing everyone likes about you.
Tenn: Okay, I'll ask you again later.
AJ sees Clementine's hat floating down the river. He tries to grab it twice, but misses.
AJ: No!
AJ tries to grab the hat again, but misses.
AJ: No. No!
Rosie grabs the hat.
AJ: Yes!
Rosie brings the hat to AJ.
AJ: Good girl!
You have: CLEM'S HAT - It's wet. And smells bad.
AJ sees a zombified Tenn nearby and draws his gun.
(If Clem said to never hesitate.)
(If Clem said to aim for the head.)
(If Clem said walkers aren't human.)
AJ: You let your sister mess with your head too much. It must have been all that trauma on you.
AJ: Please don't go towards the school. The other kids shouldn't see you as a monster. Nobody should...
(If Clem saved Louis.)
(If Clem saved Violet)
AJ: Just... just keep looking at whatever you're looking at. Please don't turn around. I don't want to see you like... like that.
AJ says nothing.
AJ shoots Tenn.
AJ: Sorry, Tenn.
Rosie whines.
Rosie whines.
AJ throws a rock against a tree to distract Tenn. Rosie whines.
Ruby then appears if zombified Tenn wasn’t shot or Tenn remained alive.
Ruby walks across the bridge.
Ruby: Hey, hon, it's gettin' late. Just coming to check on you. Dinner's soon.
Ruby: Tennessee? (hugs Tenn) Oh, thank god.
Tenn: Hey, Ruby.
Ruby: We gotta get you home, I swear.
Tenn: I'm so hungry.
Ruby: I bet. You coming with? Whoa, you found it. How did you...?
AJ: Okay, I'm all done, anyway.
Ruby: (pets Rosie) That a good scratchin' spot? Yeah, I think it is. Oh, wow, you found her hat.
AJ: It found me.
Ruby and determinantly Tenn leave. Rosie walks up to AJ.
AJ: Let's go home? Let's go home.
AJ picks up the bucket of fish, and he and Rosie leave the area.
School
Rosie and AJ walk back through the forest. AJ picks up a leaf and holds it up to the sunlight. He picks up the bucket and continues moving. Aasim, carrying a rabbit, walks up to Ruby. They hold hands and walk back to the school together. A zombified or dead Abel is tied to a tree; Omar puts up a sign near him saying "Don't FUCK with us!" before walking back with the others. Willy climbs down a tree and enters the school. AJ reaches the gates and whistles to Rosie, and they both enter the courtyard. AJ closes the gate behind him. He walks up to Omar, who is cooking, and drops the bucket of fish near him.
Clementine: What you doin' there, goofball?
Clem walks up to AJ on crutches, her leg amputated and bandaged. AJ hugs her.
Clementine: Whoa! Easy there...
AJ: You're out of bed! You're walking! And you have wood arm legs.
Clementine: Crutches.
AJ: Crutches. I found your hat.
AJ: Well, Tenn found it and gave it back to me. It was in the river and it's all wet now.
AJ: It was in the creek down by the shack. I thought I wouldn't get it, but then Rosie jumped right in and got it out of the water. It's all wet now.
Clementine: It's definitely seen better days. You know what? You keep it if you want it.
AJ: I'll put it in our room.
Clementine: I have a surprise for you too. Come with me. I want to show you something.
Clem takes AJ over to a tire swing attached to a tree.
Clementine: So, what do you think?
AJ: It's... it's for me?
Clementine: Yep. Willy helped me put it together. C'mon, lemme push you.
AJ climbs into the swing and Clementine pushes him.
AJ: Remember when I thought this was a monster trap?
Clementine: Yeah.
AJ: Pretty dumb, huh?
AJ: This is fun! I love today.
AJ: Did you ever get to swing? When you were smaller?
AJ: I'm flying!
Clementine: You sure are!
AJ: Higher!
Ruby: Food's ready, everyone! Come and get it!
AJ: You're the best, Clem. (hugs Clem)
Omar: It's gonna get cold!
AJ: Come on. Let's go eat. We're coming!
They walk past the graveyard. If Tenn died, his grave has flowers on it. If Violet or Louis died, their grave has a drawing of them and Clementine. Everyone gathers at the table to eat. Ruby gives Aasim a bite of her food. Willy catapults some of his food onto Omar's face, and everyone laughs. Ruby burps.
AJ burps, and everyone laughs.
Clementine: AJ...
AJ burps loudly.
Aasim: Goddamn!
Everyone laughs.
Clementine: AJ...
AJ: Ruby, that's gross.
Everyone laughs.
AJ says nothing.
Willy guzzles the rest of his food.
Willy: Seconds, please!
Omar: Already? You even taste that?
Louis takes a note out of his jacket and passes it to Clementine. (According to texture files, the note says "Clem, will you be my girlfriend? Louis" with red hearts drawn all over the page. The same note is used whether romantic or platonic; the note is confirmed to be canon to the romance route, but the platonic route is likely intended to contain something humorous instead.)
Clementine: Louis!
AJ: What's it say?
AJ reaches toward the note, and Clem moves it away.
Clementine: Don't worry about it.
Louis kisses Clementine on the cheek.
Clementine: Idiot.
Clementine: (laughs) Idiot.
Clementine: How are your eyes?
Violet: Between my patch and your stump, we almost make a full pirate.
Clementine: Arrr.
Violet: I wanted to wait 'til you were up and about, but how I behaved on the boat... it was really unfair. My head was so messed up, by Lilly and... and Minnie. I was so wrapped up in my own shit...
Clementine: It's okay. You went through hell in that boat, and I let that happen.
Clementine: I'm just glad I got you back. I was so worried I'd lost you.
Violet kisses Clementine on the cheek.
Clementine: I'm just glad we got you out of there.
AJ: Hey, Tenn, wanna practice? I can show you how to use the gun.
Tenn: Okay.
AJ and Tenn walk over to a target. AJ loads the gun.
AJ: So that's where you put the bullets. When you shoot one bullet, it pushes another one up. Into the chamber. (hands the gun to Tenn)
AJ: And you have to remember... Never hesitate.
Tenn: Never?
AJ: Never.
AJ: Oh, and you should always save the last one for you.
Tenn: For me?
AJ: In case you're gonna become a monster and you don't want to.
AJ: You know you're supposed to shoot them in the head?
Tenn: Uh... yeah, I know that much.
AJ: Hey, Tenn, let's go play.
Clementine: I'm sure Tenn's exhausted, AJ.
Tenn: No, it's okay. I kinda just feel like playing a little. After everything that's happened.
AJ: Good. You can teach me how you draw so good.
AJ and Tenn sit on the ground and draw.
Tenn: What are you drawing?
AJ: Eyes. But they don't look like they do in my head.
Tenn: Oh, yeah, eyes are hard. But yours are good. I like the yellow.
AJ: But you couldn't tell they were eyes.
Clementine: Well, I'm getting tired, kiddo. Mind talk with me before I turn in?
AJ: Sure.
Whoever Clem saved hands her the crutches. Louis/Violet shows Clementine a map on another picnic table.
Louis: That's where Aasim saw them. He was ranging out far past the traps just here.
Clementine: I want you to go.
Violet: Yeah, that's the spot. Aasim says he say ten, fifteen of them a little bit past the old safe zone.
Clementine: I want you to go.
Clementine: We need to know who they are. Maybe even see if they're willing to trade. Just keep your distance until you can make a call.
AJ: Who who are?
Clementine: A group of survivors, out beyond the old safe zone. Some kind of caravan.
AJ: Are they bad people?
Louis: You wanna come with me in the morning and find out? I could definitely use the backup.
Clementine: No arguments there.
Louis: Hey!
AJ: Aren't you still mad I killed Tenn?
Louis: I... AJ, I guess it's like... You saw something I didn't. About the situation, I mean. Minnie and the walkers and Tenn, it's just all this chaos in my head when I think back on it.
Louis: Clem says you saved my life? Well, then, that's exactly what you did. And how can I stay mad at anyone for doing that?
Louis: He was your friend, AJ. I know you are hurting just as much as I am.
AJ: Louis, huh? Hmm, sounds kind of dangerous for... well.
Louis: That sounds like another vote for you coming along and watching my back.
Clementine: It'd make me feel a lot better if you went.
AJ: Someone has to watch him.
Louis: I am literally right here, dude.
AJ: Or we could just ignore them, hope they never find us.
Louis: That's what Marlon would've done.
Louis: You don't have to decide now or anything.
Clementine: This is the part where you tell me you'll be really, really careful.
Violet: How about you back me up and we'll find that out together? Word on the street is you're a good running buddy.
Clementine: Best.
AJ: Aren't you still mad I killed Tenn?
Violet: The thing you said on the bridge... that he was messing up all the time. It wasn't something new, you know. Tenn got himself or other people into trouble all the time, long before you guys got here. He was always so lost. He lived in a world that just... isn't there, you know? And that's why I tried to look after him. But when I was pulling him away from the walkers, and Minnie, I could also see... he just wasn't there anymore.
AJ: So you're mad, but sad.
Violet: Can I be that for a while?
AJ: Sending Violet's smart. She knows what she's doing.
Violet: Back atcha, kid. That's why I want you to come with.
AJ: Or we could just ignore them, hope they never find us.
Violet: That's a Marlon strategy.
Clementine: We can't be scared to reach out and try to work with other survivors. There's not many of us left.
Violet: Sleep on it, little guy, we can talk tomorrow.
Clementine: She'll need the help, AJ.
Clementine: This is the part where you tell me you'll be really, really careful.
Louis/Violet leaves.
AJ: You okay?
Clementine and AJ sit on the steps. AJ looks at her leg.
Clementine: Caught ya.
AJ: Sorry.
Clementine: It's okay. I stare at it too. If it was just you and me alone out there and I was like this? I don't know if I'd make it two weeks. I'm gonna need these to go anywhere. And if we ever had to run... it wouldn't be pretty.
AJ: At least you didn't lose a hand. You can still shoot a gun.
AJ: At least you're not a monster. Or dead. Anything's better than that.
Clementine: Yeah, yeah.
AJ: Don't forget that.
Clementine: Oh, I'm sure you'll remind me.
AJ: You made it so we don't have to run, Clem. We're safe now.
AJ: It's okay. I'll make you a new foot.
Clementine: Oh, yeah?
AJ: There must be a foot-making book somewhere. I'll ask Willy.
AJ says nothing.
Clementine: All this. It's worth it. All those times you would ask me if we'd find a home... all I could ever tell you was "we'll see". And your face would fall every single time.
AJ: It's better than saying yes and lying to me.
Clementine: That's what I told myself. But you want to know something I didn't tell you? I never had a plan. I never knew where we were going. I never knew anything. I just fought and fought and fought, and hoped you didn't notice. Hoped we'd find something before you did. Did I do a good job?
AJ: You tried really hard. That's all that matters, right?
Clementine: It's part of it.
AJ: I mean, I didn't die. That's the job, right? I mean, like, really?
Clementine: Yeah, there were close calls.
AJ: Of course you did! What are you... are you crazy?
Clementine: Maybe a little.
Clementine: Okay, fine. I had to ask.
Clementine will remember that.
Clementine: When we were in the barn, you didn't listen to me. And if you had, I'd be dead.
Clementine: I was right to trust you, back in the cave. To make the hard calls, even when I couldn't.
Clementine: I shouldn't have said you weren't ready. Back in the cave. You showed me how wrong I was.
Clementine: You'll have to be strong for the both of us.
AJ: You made it so I can. So... thank you... for everything.
Clementine: You're welcome. For everything.
AJ enters the dorm with Rosie and walks through the hallway to his room.
AJ: Okay, okay, in you go.
Rosie and AJ enter the room.
(AJ can only look at/place items if Clementine/he collected them.)
Rosie barks, and AJ laughs.
AJ: Louis explained how this works. But it still seems like magic.
AJ: It's like Louis in a box.
AJ places the skull fragment on the shelf.
AJ puts James' mask on the coatrack.
AJ: I miss you. But I'm gonna pretend this is you still watching out for us. I think you'd like that. I hope so, at least.
AJ puts the crystal on the desk.
AJ: "Hey there, Alvin Junior, you ready to rock?"
AJ: That looks like it tastes bad. I won't lick it. I won't.
AJ: Still scary.
AJ: Why did Clem collect so many skulls?
AJ: I don't know how this works. This seems like... really hard drawing. I'll ask Clem later.
AJ: This is a good one. Like it's protecting us.
AJ: Clem said she'd teach me to ride someday. I gotta get bigger, fast.
AJ: Go, Ericson! I still don't know why you say that.
AJ: He really is a good artist. This deserves to be on the wall.
AJ: It's too bad he won't be able to draw another one. I hope you have extra crayons wherever you are, Tenn.
AJ: Hmmm... You know what? I'm a great artists. You hear me, Rosie? Great.
AJ: I can't reach. That's unfair.
AJ: Beet-Nick. (laughs)
AJ: I wonder if you're hungry. For bugs.
AJ: Never gonna die, huh? That's lucky.
AJ: They're dead. Bye, flowers. I'll pick some more.
AJ: Omar didn't want this back. He said, "Well, it didn't work, did it?"
AJ: You're so cool, Disco Broccoli. Like... the coolest.
AJ: Even if I could eat you, I wouldn't do it. You're too cool.
