Original TV Series
Following the attack on the Atlanta camp by a small herd, Daryl Dixon uses a pickaxe to put down those who have died before they can reanimate, impaling each one through the head as well as impaling at least a few of the walkers, presumably just to be sure that they're dead. However, Andrea Harrison violently rejects Daryl's attempts to put down Amy, instead shooting her sister herself after Amy turns. Following the discovery that Jim has been bitten, Daryl tries to kill him with his pickaxe, but he is stopped by Rick Grimes.
When Daryl reaches the mutilated body of Ed Peletier, Ed's wife Carol stops him, wanting to take care of her husband herself. Taking the pickaxe, Carol impales Ed in the head before using it several more times on him, letting out her anger over Ed's abuse towards herself and Sophia.
Later, Shane uses a pickaxe to break open the lock on Hershel's barn in order to let the walkers inside out.
Fear the Walking Dead
On Catrina Island, Seth Geary uses a pickaxe to put down walkers that wash up on the island. During Madison's Group's visit, he invites Chris to join in.
While hiding in a ball pit, Alicia watches Diana use a pickaxe to clear out a small herd of walkers in On-The-Go Burger.
Josiah LaRoux uses a shovel with a pickaxe attachment as his primary weapon against the undead. During his fight with Morgan Jones, Josiah extends the pickaxe attachment to better help counter Morgan's staff and battle axe.
Novel Series
In the early days of the outbreak, Philip Blake, Bobby Marsh and Nick Parsons use pickaxes to fight the undead in order to avoid drawing attention to themselves with gunfire.
