Strappado is a form of torture in which the victim's hands are tied behind their back and the victim is suspended by a rope attached to the wrists, typically resulting in dislocated shoulders.

Pre-Apocalypse

It was employed by the medieval Inquisition and by many governments, such as the civil law court (1543–1798) of the Order of St. John at the Castellania in Valletta, Malta.

Post-Apocalypse

As a punishment for trying to attack Guillermo Torres, Jaime suffers strappado, a method of torture where he is strung up in the Solaz del Mar square with rocks tied to his feet. Despite being in intense pain, Jaime defiantly yells at the El Alcázar soldiers to increase the weight and Guillermo complies. Jaime is eventually released from the strappado.

One of the suggestions for punishing the captured Primitivo is the strappado. However, Fede decides to go with a form of "frontier justice" instead.

Fede tortures Antonio with strappado for helping Daryl and Carol to escape and for supposedly helping them to murder three El Alcázar soldiers. Fede offers to release Antonio if he will tell Fede what he wants to know, but Fede refuses. Antonio is eventually rescued by Carol, Rodo and Daniel.

After Fede is exposed for his own crimes, Carmen angrily yells for him to be placed in the strappado. However, Roberto and Justina have Fede locked up rather than stooping to his level.
