Framing is a recurring topic in The Walking Dead. It typically occurs when a character provides false evidence to prove that another character is guilty of a certain crime.

- Brian Blake frames Rick's group for the murder of Dr. Stevens, as well as the decapitation of Caesar Martinez.
- Mikey attempts to frame Carl for instigating a scuffle, when it in fact was Mikey who instigated it.
TV Series
- Shane Walsh helps Randall Culver to escape and then, after killing Randall, plans to frame him for the murder of Rick Grimes. (Better Angels)
- Len attempts to frame Daryl for stealing a rabbit. (Us)
- Nicholas attempts to frame Glenn for the deaths of Aiden and Noah to Deanna Monroe. (Try)
- Dwight frames Dr. Emmett Carson for helping Sherry to escape from the Sanctuary. (Hostiles and Calamities)
- Gage and Alfred attempt to frame Lydia for an attack that had led to the death of one of the members of the Highwaymen, Margo. However, the Alexandria Council remains dubious of their story. (Silence the Whisperers)
- After killing Pope, Leah Shaw lies to the rest of the Reapers that Daryl had actually killed him. (For Blood)
- Carol suggests to Pamela Milton that they pin Sebastian's crimes on Lance Hornsby in order to gain her cooperation, (Lockdown) which she accepts. Pamela successfully pins Sebastian's crimes on Lance before the Commonwealth. (A New Deal)
Fear the Walking Dead
- Madison Clark, her son Nick and Jeremiah Otto frame Qaletaqa Walker for the murders of Mike, Vernon, Kathy and Gretchen Trimbol to protect the true killer, Jeremiah's son Troy. (Red Dirt) Alicia subsequently becomes suspicious of this story when both Walker and Ofelia Salazar deny the accusation. (The Unveiling) Nick later reveals the truth to his sister after uncovering the true cause of the war between Broke Jaw Ranch and Walker. (Children of Wrath)
- Walker and Ofelia make it seem like the Hopi Tribe had beaten Ofelia so that she can infiltrate the ranch and poison the militia with anthrax. (The Unveiling, Children of Wrath)
- Madison frames Jeremiah's death at her son Nick's hands as a suicide. (Children of Wrath)
- Virginia frames Janis for the murder of Cameron in order to protect her daughter, Dakota. (The Key, The Door)
- John Dorie Sr. frames Theodore Maddox for his crimes by planting the purse of one of his victims in the back of the killer's closet. Although he's never caught, John is so consumed by guilt that it destroys his life. (The Key, J.D., Cindy Hawkins)
- John frames Howard with a planted walkie in order to successfully shake Victor Strand's faith in him. Strand later forces John to kill Howard for the planted walkie even after John confesses to framing him. (Sonny Boy)
World Beyond
- Huck frames Silas Plaskett for the murder of Tony Delmado by using Silas' Wrench to bash Tony's head in after shooting him. (Truth or Dare, The Sky Is a Graveyard, The Deepest Cut, In This Life, Blood and Lies)
- After Iris Bennett kills a CRM soldier near the Perimeter, (Konsekans) she, Felix Carlucci and Will Campbell use a captured walker to stage it to look like Will and the soldier had killed each other, covering up the murder and faking Will's death at the exact same time. (Foothold)
- As Felix prepares to kill Huck using a walker, he reveals that he intends to have the walker bite her and for the CRM to find Huck bitten and turned miles away as a way of covering up the murder. However, Felix doesn't go through with it in the end. (Family Is a Four Letter Word)
- The Endlings discover that the CRM had actually destroyed Omaha and the Campus Colony with chlorine gas and framed it as them being overrun by a massive herd. (Blood and Lies)
- Deeming Lyla Belshaw to be a liability due to all of the protocols that she has broken and with Dr. Leo Bennett as her perfect replacement, Jadis has Huck kill her by unleashing a zombified Barca onto Lyla. Jadis plans to frame the murder as just another tragic lab accident. (Blood and Lies)
Daryl Dixon
- After Maribelle kills Michel Codron in revenge for his actions towards her, she blames Daryl Dixon who is thus accused of murder by Michel's brother. (L'âme Perdue) Daryl later reveals the truth to Stéphane who is shocked and horrified by what he did in the name of revenge on the wrong person. Daryl guesses that Maribelle was a good liar. (Au Revoir Les Enfants)
- After Daryl kills three El Alcázar soldiers who were trying to rob and murder Roberto and Justina, (La Ofrenda) the sole survivor Manuel lies to Guillermo Torres that they were just trying to get water from the river when the four men were attacked unprovoked. (El Sacrificio)
- Roberto reveals that Fede had traded Justina to El Alcázar and framed it as her taking Alba's place after Justina threatened to expose the fact that Fede had secretly been rigging La Ofrenda to protect her. (Limbo)
The Ones Who Live
- After Michonne and Nat kill Donald Okafor and a group of Frontliners, Rick frames it as Nat being solely responsible while Michonne had saved his life in order to protect her from the CRM. (Gone)
- As a part of the Echelon Briefing, Major General Beale reveals to Rick that the CRM had been the ones to destroy Omaha and the Campus Colony, framing it on the undead. They plan to do the exact same thing with Portland and use it to declare martial law over the Civic Republic itself, effectively seizing control of the city. (The Last Time)

- Clementine frames Reggie for not showing her and Sarah how to work in the greenhouse properly (Determinant).
- Joan attempts to frame David of being responsible for the raids on all of the communities.
- Marlon attempts to frame Clementine for killing Brody.
Michonne
- Samantha and Greg Fairbanks try to frame Michonne for stealing from Norma with them.

- Members of the Savage Sons Motorcycle Club attempt to frame Ash for selling Merle out.
