  • Hershel Greene, a former alcoholic, suffers a relapse after witnessing most of his family get put down. (Nebraska)
  • Bob Stookey turns to alcohol to cope after becoming the only survivor of his past two groups. According to Bob, "it used to be I'd drink a bottle of anything just so I could shut my eyes at night." While he thought that it would be easier at the prison, it wasn't. While on a run to the Big Spot, Bob considers taking a bottle of alcohol, but when he puts it back down, Bob does it so hard that the shelf collapses, creating a commotion that draws the attention of the herd on the roof, ultimately leading to Zach's death. Bob later admits to Daryl Dixon the truth about his drinking and that he had only gone on the run so that he could get himself a bottle of anything. In addition, Bob admits that he had gotten Zach killed because of his actions. While at the veterinary college, Bob only takes a bottle of alcohol with him instead of the much-needed medication, enraging Daryl. (30 Days Without An Accident, Indifference) Glenn and Tara later use it as a Molotov cocktail in order to escape from the prison as it's overrun by a herd. (Inmates)

  • Abraham Ford is shown to have a fondness for alcohol, partially to cope with the horrors he had seen. When searching for supplies with the rest of the group, he found a bottle of whiskey and despite the dehydration he was suffering with the rest of the group, he finished the entire bottle, though he did offer some to the other members of the group. (Them) At the welcome party in Alexandria to integrate Rick's group with the rest of Alexandria, Abraham was quick to take note of the beers and after a while, he was quite intoxicated while talking with Michonne. (Forget) After Pete Anderson killed Reg and was subsequently killed by Rick, Abraham took Reg's body away in a tarp before taking a drink of a bottle of whiskey and pouring some out in respect for Reg. He subsequently finished the bottle and became intoxicated, playing with Reg's wedding ring and then flashing a peace sign to Sasha. (First Time Again)
  • Pete Anderson is a violent alcoholic who often abuses his wife, Jessie. Rick tries to help Jessie with this issue, which causes him and Pete to get into a bloody fight. Later, a drunken Pete tries to kill Rick but accidentally slits Reg's throat, which leads to his own demise. (Conquer)
  • While struggling with his torn loyalties, Eugene drinks heavily. (Time for After)
  • Gregory gets Earl Sutton drunk after the death of Earl's son to help convince him to assassinate Maggie. (A New Beginning) Earl later admits to Maggie that he's a recovering alcoholic who had been sober for a number of years before his son's death, earning Earl her sympathy due to Maggie's experiences with her own father's alcoholism.   • Lance Hornsby has trouble finding adequate wine for Governor Pamela Milton's masquerade ball. Spotting this, Carol sneaks out of the Commonwealth to Vincenti's Fine Wine and locates a house with a wine cellar that she raids after putting down a few walkers. The wine proves to be a hit and it allows Carol to make a deal with Lance to work for him in exchange for Lance getting Ezekiel's cancer treated before it's too late. (New Haunts)
  • The Commonwealth has connections to a drug farm that is run by Moto. When asked about it, Lance calls his people drug smugglers in this situation, but the Commonwealth uses the poppies to make opium for the hospital and things will look pretty bleak there if they run out. Carol eventually deduces that the workers are on strike because Moto has been pocketing their raises and abusing them, leading to his arrest. (Rogue Element)
  • Toby Carlson is an alcoholic who has been sober for years. (Warlords) During the events at Riverbend, Toby pours some of a bottle of alcohol off of the roof, but not before putting some on his finger and tasting it. (The Rotten Core)

  • During the National Guard's occupation of his neighborhood, Nick secretly steals morphine from Hector Ramirez in order to get high. However, Nick's drug supply is cut off when Dr. Bethany Exner takes Hector for better treatment. Liza Ortiz also tells Exner about Nick's drug addiction and has her examine him despite Nick's claims that he is clean. In a panic, Nick searches a neighbor's house for drugs, and he is caught by his mother in the process. As a result of his drug addiction, Exner later takes Nick with her along with Liza.   • While trapped together in Teddy's Secret Bunker, John Dorie Sr. and June Dorie share a nightcap before bed each night. After their supply of alcohol is destroyed, John admits that he's secretly been drinking more than that and is an alcoholic who has been drinking every day for years. As a result, John goes into alcoholic withdrawal "cold turkey" and experiences tremors and hallucinations.
